16 New Wisconsin State Patrol Officers Sworn In

Governor Tony Evers helped swear in 16 new Wisconsin State Patrol officers during a graduation ceremony last week in La Crosse. Members of the 64th Recruit Class recently completed 26 weeks of comprehensive training that began last September at the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy at Fort McCoy. 13 of the recent graduates will begin their service as troopers with three working as inspectors. Troopers and inspectors have similar law enforcement authorities - patrolling highways, enforcing traffic laws and assisting drivers. Inspectors have additional training related to federal motor carrier regulations that deal with large trucks, buses and other commercial motor vehicles.

Last year, State Patrol officers made over 225-thousand traffic stops, handled over 39-thousand motorist assists and inspected over 36-thousand commercial motor vehicles. A recruitment effort is currently underway for the next State Patrol cadet class that begins training this fall. The application deadline is Sunday (March 31st). See a full list of the new officers, their hometowns and their assignments here.
