DWD Says 140,000 Unemployment Applications Are On Hold

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development reports 140 thousand applications for unemployment benefits are on hold right now.  The state agency says it has just opened a new call center to speed up the investigation of those claims.  Secretary Caleb Frostman blames the situation on an unprecedented number of claims and staff levels which were inadequate to handle the volume of cases.  Frostman says about 125 adjudicators are dealing with the situation now, 100 are about to be brought onboard, and an external vendor will add 200 more to help deal with the backlog

Haven't people ever heard of a savings account? You should have a minimum of $15,000 set aside for situations like this. I can't feel sorry for you.

We are not all able to save, children with medical needs or yourself with cancer, that is why some times there is no money, doctors and hospitals cost, there are some reasons why, some people have plain bad luck. Don't judge, understand

Unfortunately when this all took place I had, a month earlier had quit my full time job, with benefits to work at another job, closer to my home, and easier on my body. I was working at an awesome job that I hoped I would be hired on full time at. I applied on indeed.com, however it was through a temp agency. After a month, covid 19 struck and I was sent home. I filed for unemployment, like so many have, and was denied benefits because the temp agency lied, stating they offered me 3 jobs after this, and that I declined them all. I was not offered them. To anyone looking for work... Please do not choose an agency to help you...

I applied for unemployment back in March 3 weeks ago they accepted it told me I was supposed to make the 370 a week. Well the Pua bill came out and I didn't hear back from unemployment so I applied for it knowing that I made a mistake it stop my unemployment I've I've lost my house ready I lost my vehicle. Been staying in a hotel since March 26th because I had to move out of a house that I was renting even though they're the safer at home act I never got evicted I got harassed until I were to move out of the house so I left because the cops want to do anything all they told me it's a civil matter don't ever come to Altoona Wisconsin so I moved into a hotel I am now losing my storage unit with my two bedroom house of items and having to sell all my tools and everything I have, to keep a float. This government bullshit can stop.I've been trying to call my unemployment for 4 weeks now and every time I call it says they're too busy or have too many people on the line. Has anybody ever got through because I called her 6 hours straight one day never got in nothing. I've sent emails two other branches in the department and they tell me sorry we can't help you blah blah blah I so excited to get my unemployment and then put them just to stop it right away because they made a mistake. I am pissed off so come to conclusion living off the grid fuck the government.the other thing is I'm sick of social media sick of all media I don't even watch the news nor do I care because half the time it doesn't even relate or have anything to do with me nor does it have anything to do with anybody else.I would just like the government to leave me the f*** alone and everybody else. Because in the end I am the only person that can hurt my self or my family around me.

It says please allow 30 days while it's been 70. Wisconsin can file evictions as a may 27. It's a catch-22 and a set up for failure. Unemployment is seriously delayed but these are applications like mine since March 13th something needs to be done for tenants. And really nobody has $15000 just saved up unless there's a certain income bracket they are already falling in majority of us live check to check with children and then monthly bills supersede the monthly income being brought in in a lot of households in this state there was just the ignorant comment someone made. And I've been working since I was 15 paying taxes 2 college degrees The economy is terrible. The governor and the senator's office has been no help so I don't know why they keep referencing their liaison for DWD when loving his being done

@HugeJass. Sorry to burst your bubble but not everyone lives in Candyland with at least $15,000 in savings for a situation like this. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say this is not the first time in my life that a situation arose, beyond my control, that put me in a tough financial scenario. It’s not simply a matter of being fiscally responsible. I don’t think anyone is looking for your approval, I know I’m not, but maybe don’t lash out at people unnecessarily if they need help just because you don’t. If you are comfortable and can ride this storm out better than most people I’m happy for you, just please remember that not everyone is in the same boat during these turbulent times.
Dan commented on 22-May-2020 06:03 AM5 out of 5 stars
I called Monday morning exactly at 7:35, waited on hold for an hour and a half only to get through to someone who said there is nothing I could do but wait because they are backlogged. I know it’s hard but try to use resources around you, they are in the process of launching a rental assistance program in Wisconsin for example. If you cannot afford to pay your rent than explain the circumstance to the landlord and stay in your home. There is nothing they can do right now and even if they tried the eviction process is 3 months from when the courts open after they write up the paperwork. This is a situation beyond our control so don’t add stress to your life if it can be prevented. For the idiot who said you should have 15k in savings is obviously close minded. We are all in this together but unfortunately we are on different paths in life. I am a college student dumbass so I don’t have the ability to save 15k.
Nick commented on 22-May-2020 06:24 AM3 out of 5 stars
I was in a similar boat, but after filing my initial claim, something didn’t feel right. I went about a month without receiving benefits before I decided to see where I may have messed up. Luckily, I found a mistake when filing out the initial claim form. Honest to god, I was paid that next week retroactively for the weeks that I missed, including back pay on the extra $600 a week. Just make sure you double check everything. Also keep in mind, if you’ve had quite a few jobs over the years, that’s the main reason while they investigate.
Hilite commented on 22-May-2020 06:37 AM3 out of 5 stars
Been over 2 months tried calling a few times. Have a better chance winning a call-in radio contest. Math is pretty easy on that one 125,000 applicants waiting only a measly 125 adjudicators. That is 1,000 cases per adj at the most they can investigate is 40 cases a day. At this rate it will take approximately 6 months to process these claims if no other claims were added. And for the clown with 15k in savings try moving out of mom's basement.

It’s funny how we all waiting for our unemployment for months and still nothing... I don’t know what’s the hold up to unemployment because 1st of all it the ppl money they work every day and night for a living and y’all wanna control there money that they work for it’s not easy for us to work day by day and night by night to support our families.. while the rich seat in the house and talk about non sense shit.. while getting paid with our money that we work for... America was never great with stuff.. the rich wants to control things but not worry about what’s going on around there state... all I can say is it’s not fair to all.. ppl need there unemployment to pay and support but I guess that’s on hold for all kinda of problems.. more likely until jobs are open and back to work so the governments can keep the money to themselves... get a job like all of us and see how slaves y’all put us in... we work and work and tax the shit out of us and we get wat leftovers of our checks and salary.. yup it’s almost 3 to 4 months we all waiting for unemployment to kick in and still waiting... and when we call it seems like ppl that’s in that office don’t know what to say to ppl about the status of there case beside ( oh yes we still investigating your case because a job was we all work for 2 years ago is under investigation why or when you left.. what’s the problem? Is why go back in 2018 due to this shit going on now 2020 virus ... that’s making ppl laid of ...... it’s stupid....

We are soon to lose everything if something doesn't happen soon. The government wants there payments for anything now, but when it comes to them paying, well you can just wait till they want to pay. It's not right.

I've made mistakes with them in the past, I've paid well over what I should have, then they hit me with another 4412.00 say just because u paid us 4412 already means we tacked on another 4412 in fines my over payments didn't even come close to what they took an are taking from me. They truly care more about money then the residents of Wisconsin money grubbing pigs.

Saul Alinsky's Rule for Radicals - The 8 steps to Socialism - this is Step #2, #3, #5 & #8 combined.

2) Poverty — Increase the Poverty level as high as possible, poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them to live.

3) Debt — Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will produce more poverty.

5) Welfare — Take control of every aspect of their lives (Food, Housing, and Income).

8) Class Warfare — Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. This will cause more discontent and it will be easier to take (Tax) the wealthy with the support of the poor.

I encourage everone to read this book or at least the summary. It explains what is happening. Oh, the rest of the rules are...control healthcare, take away their guns, control education and eliminate religion....

As I did the queue slowly went down. It was get to about 45 or 50 and seconds later I would call again and it would jump to 199 again.

Then said something about an Appeal being held until May 20th 2020. Still has 2 other jobs that are awaiting adjudication. Seriously dont even know if or if not been approved. For normal weekly pay and or this additional 600. So it's been 60 days I really hope they approve her and back pay the full amount bc we r so behind Bill's. We have tried to set up payment plans. Looked for jobs but no one supposedly hiring bc of COVID 19. My application still is pending adjudication since March 23rd 2020. So yea I feel.everyones finicial pain. I really hope they will finally pay. If not then we too will be almost homeless and still jobless.

Apparently being disabled getting SSDI and working (which is encouraged by Social Security) a gig job to make ends and barely survive and WISCONSIN is the ONLY state that will deny someone in my shoes for the PUA! This is ridiculous especially when every other state is approving people that lost work who are on SSDI. Why not this damn state???? I and many others NEEDED that extra part time work, paid taxes on that work, and no lost the income and are getting squat for help and even less for answers. Stupid fucking Wisconsin BS! Stupid fucking Federal government BS! Stupid fucking rich politicians that really do NOT care about any of us. And $15,000 in savings??? Who the hell has that kind of money sitting around besides the same people that look down on others when they use a food card at the grocery store? No one I know has even $1000 after monthly bills get paid.

It should be. This is our money that should be there. Bunch of crooks that all need to be fired and replaced with people with common sense. Why don’t they finish what they start, passing along to someone else, no sense.
Diane commented on 17-Jun-2020 06:51 AM3 out of 5 stars
I too applied for PUA. I was recently awarded SSDI benefit. I have not received my backpay or monthly pay. I am self-employed and therefor elligible for PUA. I understand WI law against SSDI and receiving PUA to be discriminatory. Where others have just lost income I have lost income plus still incurred monthly business expenses. So it's not just that I don't get money I am losing money. Gov Evers shut down businesses like mine indicating it was "not essential" business and then I go in the hole money wise and have no such way to compensate for that. Even with doors open now, my business is health-care related and largely individuals haven't returned due to the inherent risk of contracting COVID. Furthermore, I can't tell on the DWD website if my claim was denied or not, or if it is just under review. There is a denial but there is no indication it was for PUA. At first I filed for regular UI because PUA resources were not out there. Regular UI was denied. I then filed for PUA as self-employed. It says the portal will be updated and I will get a letter. Either I didn't get a letter yet or the denial I see on the portal is from the denial of the regular UI. There is no indication or identification from which this denial was generated (PUA or regular UI) but it does indicate it is beyond the appeals process. How is one to appeal if you don't know which program they are referring to the denial? If you receive a denial only after the appeals deadline is closed - how can you file an appeal? How is the state going to rectify the situation (or will they) against Unemployed individuals who also have SSDI? I feel like I'm being double penalized 1. being self-employed (I have business expenses and no way to counteract them to be in the positive) 2. being disabled and trying to work (as the law allows and they encourage) when my non-essential business was forced to close I had no income 3. As my self-employed business is health-field related my clients still are not coming for services anywhere near the rate they had before even though I am open for business because people are still afraid to go out and about and risk potential exposures. This can impact my business for months to come. And there is no guidance. Am I to file an appeal - if so, where? How long will it take? It hasn't even been clearly identified it was my PUA that was denied. I've waited on the phone totaling 12.5 hours over the past 6 weeks still with an inability to talk to anybody as I seek clarification. Meanwhile, I'm going through a divorce, have no temporary order that would mandate my soon to be ex to pay child support or general support (courts too were shut down by COVID), and then I lose money each month (being in the negative) with my business. For the person who mentioned $15,000 savings... I HAD that and then a little extra. It is all gone because of my situation, which was of no fault of my own.
