Flu Cases On The Rise In State, Worst Still To Come

The flu season has yet to peak, but cases are on the increase across Wisconsin. There have been more than 500 hospitalizations this week, including at least 100 hospitalizations reported as of Thursday morning.

Officials are saying Wisconsin won't be at peak flu activity for a few more weeks, followed by a number of weeks at what they call "high activity". It's also not too late to get a vaccination, they say.

Tom Haupt, influenza surveillance coordinator for the state Department of Health Services, reported that the season's second pediatric influenza death also occurred. The child who died from flu was from southern Wisconsin. Haupt said the flu strains circulating most in Wisconsin now tend to strike people under 50.
