Hot Week of Weather Ahead, Wisconsin DHS Offering Tips to Stay Safe in the Heat

With a week of hot weather in the forecast, officials with the State Department of Health Services are encouraging people to use common sense and stay cool and hydrated during the extreme heat. A news release says people ages 15-to-34 in Wisconsin are the most likely to go to the emergency room for getting sick from the heat. Symptoms of heat illness include feeling overheated, weak, dizzy, nauseated and having muscle cramps. Experts say to stay in air conditioning when possible, drink plenty of water and limit your time outdoors to the morning or evening hours when temperatures are cooler. DHS officials are also reminding people to never leave a person or pet inside of a car during a hot day, even if it is for a short time. That reminder comes after news last week of a dog dying in Green Bay after being left in a hot car for three hours.

High temperatures for the Fond du Lac area this week are projected to be in the upper 80s to low 90s, with the hot temperatures expected to last into the upcoming weekend.
