NACC, MWC, CCIW Announce Postponements of Fall Sports

Several collegiate athletic conferences in the Midwest announced Monday that they are suspending athletic competition for the remainder of 2020.

The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC), Midwest Conference (MWC) and the Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) announced Monday that athletic competitions will be on hold at their member institutions through at least December 31st.

The NACC, which includes the athletic teams of Marian University, says they are looking to providing a “meaningful experience” for fall sports athletes in the spring. The conference said in a press release that opportunities for “skill development and team building” will be offered for fall athletes through practices and conditioning work, and possible non-conference games, with those decisions being left up to the member schools.

The MWC, which includes Ripon College and several other schools in Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois, echoed the NACC in their statement, saying they “remain focused on providing meaningful experiences for all student athletes in 2020-2021”, and that member schools may offer practice, small-group training and skill development, along with the possibility of non-conference games if that is decided upon by the school.

The CCIW, which includes Carthage College and Carroll University in Wisconsin, along with several schools in Illinois, said conference leaders were exploring the possibility of having fall sports such as football, soccer, volleyball and cross country in the spring. CCIW officials say a decision on a start date has not been made for the winter sports season, and that schools may offer practice and conditioning for fall athletes if their conditions allow.

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) also announced a cancellation of most of its fall sports for the upcoming year. Read more about that here
