The Latest Sports Headlines:

>>Scouts:  Badger LB Zack Baun Looks Like Late 1st-Round, Early 2nd-Round Draft Pick

(Madison, WI)  -- Wisconsin linebacker Zack Baun looks like he could become another N-F-L defensive standout who came from the Badgers football program. Scouts are projecting the six-foot-two, 240-pounder to go in the late first-round or early second round of next month’s 2020 draft.  Baun has the intangibles and the stats, with 12-and-a-half sacks last season, while also leading the team in tackles for a loss, 19-and-a-half, and 10 quarterback hits. Baun was a first-team All-American and All-Big Ten Conference choice last season.

>>Badgers Basketball Ranks In Top-20 Of “Way Too Early” Poll

(Madison, WI)  -- At least one expert thinks the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team could be among the top-10 next season. College basketball gurus are offering their “way too early” polls for the coming year.  U-S-A Today’s Scott Gleeson pegs U-W at number-eight, saying with all five starters from the final game returning they could be even better than last season’s Big Ten Conference champs. Sharpshooter Brevin Pretzl is the only player graduating who saw significant playing time.  A solid recruiting class makes them a top choice to be a winner. Most experts think Villanova will be number-one.

>>Antetokounmpo Projected As Top Contender For NBA Defensive Player Of The Year

(Milwaukee, WI)  -- N-B-A observers are picking Milwaukee forward Giannis Antetokounmpo as a top contender for the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award. He’s already a favorite for M-V-P and only Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon won both awards in the same season.  Antetokounmpo is compared to two-time winner Draymond Green – with a little less defensive skill, but a lot more athletic ability. It helps that Milwaukee had the best team defensive rating in the league when play was stopped.

>>Marquette Takes 2 Looks At Every Available Guard Out There

(Milwaukee, WI)  -- Marquette head coach Steve Wojciechowski has a lot of talent returning inside for next season, but not much at the guard and wing positions.  The graduation of Markus Howard leaves a large hole away from the backboard. That’s why the Golden Eagles are being paired with every college guard who enters the transfer protocol.  The latest is Ohio State’s D-J Carlton, a player Wojciechowski recruited when he was playing high school basketball in Iowa. Several big-name programs are after the six-foot-two guard who came off the bench for the Buckeyes and averaged more than 10 points-a-game. He has given no indication where he might go yet.
