The Latest Sports Headlines:

>>Kaminsky Chosen Big Ten Conference All-Decade Player Of the 2010s

(Madison, WI)  --  Former Wisconsin Badgers star Frank Kaminsky has been chosen the Big Ten Conference’s All-Decade player of the 2010s.  Kaminsky was National Player of the Year as a Badger for the 2014-2015 season.  He also laid claim to the Wooden Award and the Naismith and Oscar Robertson trophies.  Kaminsky led the conference in eight different categories that season, including scoring with 18-point-eight points-a-game and rebounding with eight-point-two per game.  He is wrapping up his fifth NBA season scoring 11 points-a-game for the Phoenix Suns.

>>Packers Schedule Not Easy, Not Hard – Ranked 15th

(Green Bay, WI)  --  The 2020 NFL schedule for the Green Bay Packers isn’t easy, but it isn’t hard.  The Packers’ strength-of-schedule ranks 15th out of the 32 teams.  Packer opponents went 128-and-126 last season.  Strength of schedule can be misleading when based on the previous season.  Not all teams who were bad in 2019 will play at the same level this season.  Green Bay non-conference opponents for 2020 include the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints, so it figures to be a challenge.

>>WIAA Struggles With Finances But Taking Some Steps To Cope

(Stevens Point, WI)  --  Just like most businesses, the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association has some issues when it comes to finances.  Canceling the boys and girls state basketball tournaments took a big bite out of the annual budget.  Getting 300 thousand dollars in federal stimulus money from the federal Paycheck Protection Program helps.  At its meeting last week, the WIAA approved a one-dollar increase in ticket prices for regional, sectional and state tournaments.  That alone could net 900 thousand dollars.  Several cost-cutting measures could save another 340 thousand.

>>DNR Resumes In-Person Hunter Safety Courses July 13th

(Madison, WI)  --  The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will resume its in-person hunter safety courses Monday, July 13th.  The move comes in response to a lawsuit filed last week by a Kansas-based hunter advocacy group.  Hunter Nation argued in a court filing that the DNR is denying people the right to hunt.  It says the department doesn’t have the authority to cancel the safety courses during the coronavirus pandemic.  All in-person instruction was called off last March.  Each new class will be limited to 50 participants.

>>DH Coming To NL Could Extend Career For Braun

(Milwaukee, WI)  --  Maybe 2020 won’t be the final season for Brewers slugger Ryan Braun after all.  The addition of the designated hitter to National League lineups could extend his career.  Previously, the 36-year-old Braun had admitted the final guaranteed year of his contract would also wrap up his major league playing time after 14 seasons.  Braun hit .285 last season with 22 home runs, so the bat is still potent.  It isn’t guaranteed that the D-H will return for National League teams next season – but it’s more likely than it was four months ago.
